Michigan Aquatic Pest Control Practice Exam

Drag lining is a mechanical control method used for managing aquatic pests, particularly invasive plant species. The correct answer is that it is not an inexpensive method that only needs to be performed once because drag lining involves multiple considerations that make it a more complex practice than suggested.

Firstly, while drag lining may initially seem cost-effective, the process requires specific equipment, potentially heavy machinery, and skilled operators, which can contribute to significant operational costs. Furthermore, the effectiveness of drag lining typically is not permanent; many aquatic pests have the potential to regrow after initial removal, necessitating repeated treatment over time to maintain control.

Additionally, environmental conditions, the type of pest species, and the ecosystem's response can all influence the outcomes of the method, meaning that multiple applications over several periods might be necessary to keep the target species in check. This ongoing requirement for follow-up treatments underlines the need for a comprehensive management plan rather than a one-time application.

These factors collectively affirm that drag lining is neither an inexpensive nor a one-time solution in the management of aquatic pests.
